The last Mughal Emperor of India was Bahadur Shah II 'Zafar' (1837–1857 CE). Following the Revolt of 1857, where he was proclaimed the symbolic Emperor of Hindustan by the rebel forces, the British exiled him to Rangoon (Burma), where he died in captivity in 1862 CE.
