Kashiraj Pandit, a senior secretary to Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula of Awadh, was an eyewitness to the Third Battle of Panipat fought on 14 January 1761 CE. He recorded a detailed contemporary account in Persian, famously remarking: 'The Third Battle of Panipat proved catastrophic for the Marathas. Two pearls were dissolved, twenty-two gold mohurs lost, and of silver and copper the destruction could not be counted.'
