Samarth Ramdas (1608–1681 AD) was a revered saint, philosopher, and poet of Maharashtra who authored the spiritual treatise 'Dasbodh'. He was the spiritual mentor and contemporary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Although his life spanned the reigns of Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb, his spiritual prominence and social influence peaked during the reign of Aurangzeb (1658–1681 AD). (Note that Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru, was contemporary to Akbar).
