उत्तराधिकार के युद्ध में सामूगढ़ की पराजय के बाद दारा शिकोह के ज्येष्ठ पुत्र शहजादे सुलेमान शिकोह ने गढ़वाल के पंवार शासक पृथ्वी शाह (पृथ्वीपति शाह) के यहां श्रीनगर गढ़वाल में शरण ली थी। पृथ्वी शाह ने शरणागत की रक्षा की, किंतु उनके पुत्र/उत्तराधिकारी मेदिनी शाह ने औरंगजेब के दबाव में आकर सुलेमान शिकोह को राजा जयसिंह के पुत्र रामसिंह के माध्यम से औरंगजेब को सौंप दिया। सुलेमान शिकोह को ग्वालियर के किले में कैद कर दिया गया, जहां उसे लगातार धीमा जहर (अफीम का पोस्त) देकर मार डाला गया।
After the defeat at Samugarh in the war of succession, Dara Shikoh's eldest son, Prince Suleiman Shikoh, fled and sought refuge in Srinagar Garhwal with the Panwar ruler Prithvi Shah (Prithvipati Shah). While Prithvi Shah upheld the duty of sanctuary, his successor Medini Shah succumbed to Aurangzeb's pressure and surrendered Suleiman Shikoh to imperial envoys. Suleiman Shikoh was imprisoned in Gwalior Fort, where he was slowly poisoned to death with daily doses of poust (concentrated opium).
