The last ruler of the Tughlaq dynasty was Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah (1394–1412 AD). During his weakened reign, the empire shrank drastically, inspiring the famous satirical proverb: 'The realm of the Emperor of the World stretches from Delhi to Palam.' Timur invaded and sacked Delhi in 1398 AD during his rule. With his demise in 1412 AD, the Tughlaq dynasty came to an end.
