तुगरिल खाँ ने बलबन के शासनकाल (1279 ई.) में विद्रोह किया था। तुगरिल खाँ बलबन का ही दास और बंगाल का इक्तेदार था। उसने बलबन के बुढ़ापे और मंगोल आक्रमण की आशंका का लाभ उठाकर स्वयं को स्वतंत्र सुल्तान घोषित कर दिया और 'सुल्तान मुगीसुद्दीन' की उपाधि धारण कर अपने नाम के सिक्के चलवाए और खुतबा पढ़वाया। बलबन ने स्वयं बंगाल अभियान का नेतृत्व कर तुगरिल खाँ को पराजित कर मृत्युदंड दिया तथा अपने पुत्र बुगरा खाँ को बंगाल का नया सूबेदार नियुक्त किया।
Tughril Khan revolted during the reign of Ghiyasuddin Balban in 1279 AD. Tughril was Balban's own slave whom Balban had appointed as governor (Iqtadar) of Bengal. Taking advantage of Balban's advanced age and the Mongol threat on the northwestern border, Tughril proclaimed independence, assumed the regal title 'Sultan Mughisuddin', issued coins, and had the Khutba read in his name. Infuriated, Balban personally marched to Bengal, pursued and executed Tughril Khan, and appointed his second son, Bughra Khan, as governor of Bengal.
