The first ruler of the Slave Dynasty was Qutbuddin Aibak (1206–1210 AD). He was a Turkish slave and general of Muhammad Ghori. Following Ghori's demise in 1206 AD, Aibak established his independent rule at Lahore. He never assumed the title of 'Sultan', contenting himself with the modest titles of 'Malik' and 'Sipahsalar' (commander).
