The Bhagavata (Vaishnava) religion attained its golden age of expansion and patronage under the imperial Gupta emperors. The Gupta rulers adopted the sovereign title of 'Paramabhagavata' and chose Garuda (the eagle mount of Vishnu) as their official imperial dynastic seal. Outstanding temple monuments dedicated to Vishnu, including the Dashavatara temple at Deogarh and the Varaha shrine at Eran, were constructed under their reign.
