बिहार के जहानाबाद जिले में स्थित बराबर और नागार्जुनी की पहाड़ियां हैं। नागार्जुनी में 3 गुफाएं हैं तथा 'बराबर' नामक पहाड़ी पर कुल चार गुफाएं स्थित हैं, जिनमें से तीन गुफाओं की दीवारों पर अशोक के लेख उत्कीर्ण मिले हैं। चौथी गुफा (लोमस ऋषि गुफा) में मौखरि शासक अनंतवर्मा का लेख है। प्रथम 3 गुफा अशोक द्वारा आजीवक संप्रदाय के साधुओं के निवास के लिए गुफा दान में दिए जाने का विवरण सुरक्षित है। चट्टानों को काटकर बनाई गई इन गुफाओं का संबंध मौर्यकाल (321-184 ई.पू.) से है।
Barabar caves are situated in Jahanabad district of Bihar. These caves were hewed out from rocks for monks to live in. There are four caves on the Barabar hill out of which inscriptions of Ashoka are found on the walls of three caves. These caves were used by ascetics from the Ajivaka sect (founded by Makkhali Gosala). These rock-cut caves are related to the Mauryan period (321-184 BC).
