अशोक के लेखों में उसके प्रशासन के कुछ महत्वपूर्ण पदाधिकारियों के नाम मिलते हैं। अशोक के तृतीय शिलालेख में तीन पदाधिकारियों के नाम मिलते हैं। ये तीनों पदाधिकारी हैं- 1. युक्त-ये जिले के अधिकारी होते थे, जो राजस्व वसूल करते थे। 2. रज्जुक ये पहले केवल राजस्व विभाग का ही कार्य करते थे; किंतु बाद में उन्हें न्यायिक अधिकार भी प्रदान कर दिया गया। 3. प्रादेशिक-यह मंडल का प्रधान अधिकारी था। इसे न्याय का भी कार्य करना पड़ता था।
Some of the names of officials were found from the edicts of Ashoka. His 3rd edict mentioned three (3) officers which are mentioned below – YUKTA – These were the district officials there to collect revenue. RAJJUKA – Rajjuka was a category of officials in the rural area who worked as surveyors combined with judicial functions. PRADESHIKA – He was a top official of the division. He can be compared with the modern day commissioner. They used to perform judicial work also.
