सर्वप्रथम 'स्तूप' शब्द कहां मिलता है?

सर्वप्रथम 'स्तूप' शब्द का वर्णन ऋग्वेद में प्राप्त होता है। इसके अतिरिक्त अथर्ववेद, वाजसनेयी संहिता, तैत्तिरीय ब्राह्मण संहिता, पंचविश ब्राह्मण आदि ग्रंथों से 'स्तूप' के संबंध में जानकारी मिलती है। स्तूप का शाब्दिक अर्थ है-'किसी वस्तु का ढेर'।

The word stupa has been used for the first time in Rig Veda. In Rig Veda texts, stupa means “tree stem.” Rigveda refers to a stupa raised by the king Varuna above the forest in a place having no foundation. Anything that is raised on the ground like a heap/pile might have been known as Stupa.
