महायान बौद्ध मत बुद्ध की लोकोत्तर सत्ता तथा देवत्व में विश्वास करता है और बुद्ध के अनेक अवतारों एवं रूपों में विश्वास करता है। साथ ही यह बुद्धत्व के मार्ग पर चलने वाले को 'बोधिसत्व' कहता है, जो सभी मानवों की मुक्ति में सहायता करता है। बोधिसत्व के पथ पर चलना इस मत में अनुकरणीय कहा गया है। हिंदू धर्म के प्रभाव में बुद्ध में देवत्व के आरोपण के साथ ही अनुष्ठान और मूर्तिपूजा महायान की मुख्य पद्धति बन गई। अतः तीनों कथन सत्य हैं。

Bodhisattva are enlightened beings who postpone their own salvation in order to help all sentient beings. Mahayana Buddhism believes in idol worship and rituals.
