'धर्मचक्रप्रवर्तन' किया गया था-

ज्ञान प्राप्ति के पश्चात गौतम बुद्ध ने अपने मत का प्रचार प्रारंभ किया। उरुवेला से वे सबसे पहले ऋषिपत्तन (वर्तमान में सारनाथ वाराणसी के निकट) आए। यहां उन्होंने पांच ब्राह्मण संन्यासियों को पहला उपदेश दिया। इस प्रथम उपदेश को 'धर्मचक्रप्रवर्तन' कहा जाता है।

After his enlightenment in Bodhgaya, Buddha went to Sarnath, where he delivered his first sermon which is known in Pali as the ‘Dhammachakkhapavathana’ or “Dharma Chakra Pravartana.” Sarnath is one of the four holy places associated with the life of Buddha. Other three important places related to Buddhism are Lumbini (birthplace of Buddha) Bodhgaya (the place of enlightenment of Buddha) and Kushinagar (place of death popularly known as Mahaparinirvana in Buddhism).
