Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (1922–2011) was one of India's greatest classical vocalists, belonging to the Kirana gharana of Hindustani music. Celebrated for his powerful Khayal renditions and Marathi Abhangs, he was conferred the nation's highest civilian honour, the 'Bharat Ratna', in 2008-09.
