The Jiyatarang Movement began in Manipur during the Civil Disobedience Movement among the Naga tribes. Initially led by Haipou Jadonang, following his execution the leadership passed to the young Naga girl Rani Gaidinliu. Jawaharlal Nehru conferred upon her the title of 'Rani'.
