On 18 April 1930, the legendary revolutionary Surya Sen ('Master Da') organized and led the historic Chittagong Armoury Raid under the banner of the Indian Republican Army (Chittagong Branch), proclaiming a provisional revolutionary government. He was captured and executed on 12 January 1934.
