A pioneer of early Indian revolutionary armed struggle, Vasudev Balwant Phadke (1845–1883 CE) organized the youth and peasants of the Ramosi tribe in the Bombay Presidency to form the 'Ramosi Peasant Force' (Ramosi Krishi Jatha) in 1879. He waged guerrilla warfare aimed at overthrowing British colonial rule. Arrested in 1879, he was deported to Aden where he died in 1883 following a hunger strike.
