The Kuka Movement (Namdhari Movement) began in Western Punjab in the 1840s under Bhagat Jawahar Mal (Sian Sahib) and his disciple Balak Singh as a religious reform movement. Later, Baba Ram Singh (Guru Ram Singh) organized it into a powerful, disciplined, and militant anti-British political movement. In 1872, the British deported Ram Singh to Rangoon (Burma), where he passed away in 1885.
