Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah of Faizabad (popularly known as Danka Shah) was considered the most dangerous and resolute enemy of the British Raj during 1857. He exhorted Indians across faiths to wage holy war against British interlopers. British General Sir Thomas Seaton described him as 'a man of great abilities, of undaunted courage, of stern determination, and by far the best soldier among the rebels.' The British placed an enormous bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head.
