Thakur Kushal Singh of Auwa (Pali, Rajasthan) routed the joint forces of the British (under Captain Heathcote) and the Maharaja of Jodhpur in the Battle of Bithoda on September 8, 1857. Ten days later, in the Battle of Chelawas (known as the 'Battle of Blacks and Whites'), he defeated A.G.G. George Lawrence and severed the head of Political Agent Mock Mason, hanging it at Auwa Fort gate.
