मुगल बादशाह अकबर से अनुमति प्राप्त करने के बाद 1579-80 ई. में पुर्तगालियों ने हुगली में अपनी प्रमुख व्यापारिक बस्ती एवं फैक्ट्री स्थापित की थी। 1599 ई. में हुगली के निकट बांदेल में भी पुर्तगालियों ने बस्ती व चर्च का निर्माण कराया। चिनसुरा में डचों की फैक्ट्री (फोर्ट गुस्तावस) तथा श्रीरामपुर में डेनिश बस्ती थी। लोक सेवा आयोग द्वारा हुगली (c) तथा बांदेल (a) दोनों को सही माना गया है, जिसमें हुगली मुख्य केंद्र था।
With the sanction of Mughal Emperor Akbar, the Portuguese established their principal factory and trading colony at Hooghly in 1579–80 CE, later building the Bandel Church nearby in 1599 CE. Chinsurah was a Dutch settlement (Fort Gustavus) and Serampore was a Danish base. Historically, Hooghly (option c) was the primary Portuguese factory in Bengal.
